M8 (NGC 6523) - Lagoon Nebula

Messier 8 (NGC 6523), also known as the Lagoon Nebula, is a nebula w/cluster located in the constellation Sagittarius, in the Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy in the Local Group of galaxies. M8 is 4,000 light years away from Earth.

M8 is best viewed during late summer, is magnitude 6, and can be viewed with naked eye (barely). M8 is 2.5° x 40' in apparent size. For reference, the full moon is 30' (arc minutes) in size.
